The Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority welcomes Chris Eckhardt, new Morgantown Development and Sales Coordinator. Chris is replacing Jessie Reckart, Morgantown Homecoming Coordinator, as she leaves the Authority as of July 31.

You can reach Chris Eckhardt at ceckhardt@fmhousing.com.

458 Morgan StreetYou may have noticed that 458 Morgan Street is no longer listed for sale. That’s because after Monday morning at 9AM, the house won’t belong to Morgantown Homecoming and the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority any more! That’s right–we’re closing on another sale.

540 Elmina Street back porchI showed 540 Elmina Street last night to a really nice couple. They seemed to like the house and the location–and the fact that the bathroom and kitchen were new and clean.

What really struck me was that this couple already lived in Greenmont. They found 540 Elmina Street not in Homes & Land or through a realtor, but through the for sale sign in the yard. They found the place while walking their dog. This is a really, really good sign. Healthy neighborhoods have different housing options for folks with different needs, different preferences. In this case, Greenmont afforded an attractive rental situation to this couple. Now that they’re interested in buying a place, the neighborhood offers that, too.

Any thoughts on this?

540 Elmina Street exterior540 Elmina Street is still available, though I’ll bet it won’t last through the summer. 540 Elmina Street has a lot of great features, including re-finished wood floors, totally remodeled kitchen and bath, improved insulation, new windows and siding, and a large out-building suitable for storage or a workshop.

Plus, 540 Elmina Street is within a fifteen minute (flat!) walk to downtown Morgantown. It’s also steps away from the public bus. If you’re looking to down-size, or just starting out, and you want to be close to town take a look at 540 Elmina Street.

Tons of new pictures after the jump! (more…)

Morgantown City Council just approved an additional $20,000 in down payment assistance for City employees. For more information about this benefit for City employees, contact Christal Crouso, Housing Authority Homeownership Manager, at (304) 363-0860 x105.

For Morgantown newcomers (and townies) there’s one spot for great information on City code, departments and services: the City of Morgantown website.

Need to contact your council person? You can do that there.

Want to put up a fence but don’t know how high it can be? You can learn that there.

Want to sign up for a City board or commission? You can do that there.

Want to see photos of Morgantown’s beautiful sights? You can do that there.

It happened. I put 1028 Charles Avenue under contract yesterday afternoon! Congrats to Loretta and Patrick on taking the first step to becoming home owners!

For those of you looking for a three bedroom, 436 Center Street is a great option. Like 1028 Charles Avenue, it has three bedrooms plus tons of extra living space. Charles had the rec room, Center has the attic. Rather than making Center’s third bedroom your home office, you could easily put it in the attic. Don’t need three bedrooms? Looks like you’ll have room in Center Street for that backgammon room you’ve always wanted.

Now if you’re determined to go small, to go green (as in the color, not the externally validated energy efficiency standards) you’ll want to check out 540 Elmina Street.  Two bedrooms, one bath, and huge storage–what’s not to like? Did you ever wonder how the houses look so clean in Domino, Cottage Living, and Real Simple? It’s real simple: big basements and outbuildings to store all the everyday, non-decorative junk. Elmina’s got that in spades.

So our supply is dwindling, but Morgantown Homecoming still has everything you’re looking for in an in-town, walkable, and charming home!

Welcome to Morgantown!Morgantown’s population grew by 2009 residents between July 1, 2000 and July 1, 2008, pushing our fair city to the fourth largest state-wide. Over that period, Morgantown was the state’s fastest growing municipality. Good news for homeowners, and if managed properly, for our neighborhoods.

j0396181I get a lot of phone calls from folks interested in Morgantown Homecoming properties, but just as many from folks who simply want some clue about buying a house. If you’ve ever tried to get information about buying a home from, say, the internet, you find a lot of vague, hazy lists.

Why not take a more organized, informed approach to home buying and joing the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority for its monthly Home Buyer Education Class? Spend a whole day talking with the Housing Authority’s Homeownership Counselor, Donna Lane, about every aspect of homeownership.

Donna’s a great instructor and you’ll walk away with an awesome detailed manual to the whole process. I went through homebuyer education last year, and I work for the Housing Authority–but I still reference my manual!

Classes are held in the Housing Authority’s Fairmont office the second Friday of every month, so that’s July 10 from 9AM-5pm, with lunch provided. Classes are free. To get your spot, call Donna at (304) 262-0860 x127.
