Wiles Hill

458 Morgan StreetYou may have noticed that 458 Morgan Street is no longer listed for sale. That’s because after Monday morning at 9AM, the house won’t belong to Morgantown Homecoming and the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority any more! That’s right–we’re closing on another sale.

j0433074So I can’t embed WBOY’s coverage of the Wiles Hill NW! Plants event, but I can link it. Click here to see WHHPNA president Dave McKain (who was not wearing the NW sanctioned shirt, shame on you, Dave) talk about the effort.

And the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority’s (FMHA) own September Efaw, Loan Processor Par Excellence, was on WBOY’s camera Friday when reporters stopped by to cover her team’s work in Greenmont. Check out September and the great work of FMHA’s employees here.

Thanks to all the area businesses, organizations, and governmental organizations that made our planting events such a success.

Wiles Hill neighbors laid plains last night to adopt the flower bump-out at the corner of Stewart and Protzman Streets.  Wiles Hill neighbors will plant the bump-out on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at part of National NeighborWorks Week. For more information on NeighborWorks Week, contact Christal Crouso at (304) 363-0860 x105 or ccrouso@fmhousing.com.

The Wiles Hill/Highland Park Neighborhood Association will meet this Wednesday, 4/15, at 5:30pm at the Wiles Hill Community Center, Eureka Drive.  View the neighbors’ agenda here.

j0437214The Wiles Hill/Highland Park Neighborhood Association (WHHPNA) is sponsoring a neighborhood clean up tomorrow, April 1, from 5-7pm. Bring gloves and wear comfy, sturdy shoes and help residents spruce up the ‘hood. Clean up-ers will meet at 5pm at the BOPARC Senior Center on Eureka Drive.

For more information about the clean up and the work of the WHHPNA, visit their blog.

The Wiles Hill / Highland Park NA will meet tonight at 7pm at the Wiles Hill Senior Center and Community Center on Eureka Drive.

Morgantown Homecoming will be there to promote the idea of selling one’s home to owner-occupants.

Click here to read an earlier post I wrote some time ago describing the rationale behind the concept of voluntary deed restriction.

The Wiles Hill-Highland Park Neighborhood Association will host an impromptu neighborhood clean-up this Saturday, March 14, 2009. Everyone, of all ages, is welcome to help in this service event.

The clean-up event will start at 8:00 AM and interested residents should gather at the Stewart Street-Willowdale Road intersection (where Mountaineer Pizza is located.)

Please plan to wear comfortable shoes and bring gloves with you. Bags will be provided. If you want to help in the fun or know of any particularly problematic spots, please contact David McKain<president@wileshill-highlandpark.org> or
call 304-216-5533.

Just a little photo post of Wiles Hill under yesterday’s snow. I got some nice pics of the Hill’s views over the Mon River and another couple of shots of homes Morgantown Homecoming has sold in the neighborhood.

It’s going to be a big eight days for neighborhood association meetings. Here’s the run-down:

  • Wiles Hill & Highland Park Neighborhood Association, tonight, 7pm at the Wiles Hill Senior & Community Center
  • South Hills Neighborhood Association, Monday, January 26, 7pm at the BOPARC Marilla Center
  • Greenmont Neighborhood Association, Monday, January 26, 7pm at 228 Green Street, Greenmont
  • Suncrest Neighborhood Association, Thursday, January 29, 6:30pm at Cavalry Baptist Church, Burroughs Street

John Martys and I will be speaking at South Hills and Suncrest about voluntary deed restrictions. Greenmont and Wiles Hill have ongoing projects that will be the main topic of dicussion.

If you’ve never been to a neighborhood meeting before, you should go to at least one. Even if you don’t live in one of these neighborhoods, watching people come together to accomplish a common goal is always fascinating and empowering. And just think, it’s happening here in our (not so) little town. Wow, I feel proud. Good way to start the day.

I can’t believe it’s almost 21st of January. I just got my Christmas tree down!

Since we are approaching the third Wednesday of the month, that can mean only one thing: a meeting of the Wiles Hill/Highland Park Neighborhood Association.  Neighbors will meet Next Wednesday, 1/21, at 7pm, at the Wiles Hill Community Center on Eureka Drive.
